Description
Violet to blue headed hummingbird, sitting on yucca reed. This is a new species to me, and not sure the origin, the closest I found was a Ruby Throated bird, but it did not show those distinctive markings on the neck. There is a violet hummingbird, but usually is not found in this area. If anyone knows, I would love to know the name.

There is a species of hummers known as Violet Crowned Hummingbirds that winter in Arizona and California, among others...Jay. Lucky you to see this fabulous new bird.
Jay Milo replied:
thank you Karen, I will check it out. This is the first time I've seen this species.Very pretty and pretty calm, sat on the reed for quite a few minutes while I clicked away.
Jay Milo replied:
doesn't look like this one- has no markings on the neck- there are 3 distinct blue markings there. Will keep on looking and hope he/she comes back again.
